Acne is something that plagues both men and women, young and old. It can be incredibly tricky and expensive to treat with conventional methods, and many home remedies simply fall short. However, using apple cider vinegar for acne breakouts is an inexpensive, safe, and excellent way of achieving soft, smooth skin.
Even Scarlett Johansson has jumped on board with this wonderful, do it yourself remedy! There are several ways to use apple cider vinegar for acne breakouts and this post is going to cover a few of them.
But first, why is Apple Cider Vinegar great for Acne?
- Malic and lactic acids found in apple cider vinegar work to balance and tone your skin, restoring it to its youthful, radiant glow.
- Apple cider vinegar contains antibacterial and antiseptic qualities, so it works great as a cleanser.
- Apple cider vinegar is incredibly cheap and easy to use
- It’s great for those with sensitive skin.
- Reduces red marks and treats acne on your entire body, not just your face.
Here are 2 ways to use Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne.
Apple Cider Vinegar Acne Face Wash
To make this face wash, you will need: a small bowl, one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (preferably raw, organic with the mother, I use Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar), and three tablespoons of warm water.
Start by wetting your face and dipping a cloth or cotton ball in the mixture and gently applying evenly across your face with upward strokes. You can also leave the mixture on your face for up to an hour before rinsing. Washing with the vinegar mixture will remove dirt and gently cleanse your skin.
Apple Cider Vinegar Acne Toner
Fill a jar with 1 part apple cider vinegar, 2 parts distilled or filtered water, and vigorously shake the jar until the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together. Using a cotton ball, blot your face with the mixture like you did with the wash. Rather than rinsing off, leave the toner on your skin until it has dried then apply the moisturizer of your choice. This toner will pick up any residue left behind by washing, and will work to balance your skin as well.
Always test your apple cider vinegar mixtures on your wrist or arm before applying to your face. Leave the mixture on for at least thirty minutes to make sure there is no reaction. It is highly unlikely that your skin will react negatively to the mixture, but it is always best to check before applying.
Always dilute the vinegar before applying to your skin. The other day I was in a hurry and just mixed up a clay mask with straight apple cider vinegar and applied it to my face. Ouch! Talk about a burn. And my face was very red for quite a while.
Apple cider vinegar is a great topical acne treatment. It works by gently cleansing and exfoliating your skin, removing dirt that has been buried deep to reveal soft, subtle, younger looking skin for a fraction of the cost of those name brand acne treatments.
