5 Homemade Oatmeal Mask Recipes

Sharing is caring!

Oatmeal.  Is there anything it can't do? It can be eaten as a cereal, in breads, cookies, cakes and even fills in as glue for children's projects in a pinch. Given that great news, when is the last time (since you were in a high chair), you put oatmeal on your face?

Well it might be time to try it again.

Why am I asking you to smear your face with oatmeal? Because, it's good for you!

Oatmeal is your skin's friend.

  • Uncooked, oatmeal has exfoliating properties.
  • When cooked and combined with other ingredients, oatmeal can help your acne.
  • When mixed with other ingredients, oatmeal can moisturize your face.
  • If your skin is prone to itchiness and/or inflammation, colloidal oatmeal soothes it naturally.
  • Oatmeal will rejuvenate your skin, giving it a gorgeous, healthy glow.

Are you convinced yet? Here are some simple oatmeal masks to get you started.

1. Banana and Oatmeal Face Mask

Mashed bananas are often a baby's first food. Bananas are full of vitamin C, fiber, natural sugars and potassium.

Put those benefits to work on your skin!

Vitamin C provides your skin with vital antioxidants. If acne is an issue, the anti-bacterial properties of the banana can help soothe and clear your skin. You can use the peels to exfoliate, reduce inflammation while providing your skin important minerals.

Ingredients:

1/2 mashed banana
1/4 cup oatmeal
1 egg
1/2 Tbsp organic raw honey

Directions: Cook the oatmeal with milk according to the directions. Stir in egg and honey and applying to your face using gentle circular motions. Rinse off with warm water after 15-20 minutes.

2. Oatmeal and Egg Face Mask

Eggs and Oatmeal. No longer just the breakfast of champions, eggs and oatmeal are a dream come true for any skin type. The whites tighten skin and blot oil.  The yolks offer protein and moisture.

Ingredients:

1/2 rolled oats (raw)
1 egg

Directions: Grind oats in food processor or blender. Mix in egg and apply to face. Rinse off after 15-20 minutes.

3. Honey Yogurt Oatmeal Mask

Bees are amazing.  Their honey is equally amazing. You can use honey to treat wounds and sores – it's anti-bacterial properties are that strong. When you think of the texture of honey, who woundn't want skin to feel as silky as honey looks pouring out of the jar. (I said silky, not sticky!) Honey applied to the skin gently opens pores and helps to clean and release trapped dirt and oil.

1/4 cup rolled oats
2 Tbsp organic raw honey
3 Tbsp organic yogurt

Directions: Grind oats in food processor or blender. Pour into a mixing bowl and add yogurt and honey. Mix together and let soak for a few minutes. Apply to clean skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse.

4. Oatmeal and Lavender Face Mask

You could call lavender the queen of essential oils. Since ancient times it has been valued for it's anti-fungal, antiseptic and anti-bacterial qualities.  In World War I, lavender was used as a wound treatment in hospitals. Not only that, it stimulates the circulatory system. Combining lavender and oatmeal will help with acne, blotchy skin and also soothe irritated skin. (If you are pregnant, nursing or have diabetes, talk to your health care provider before using lavender.)

5. Lemon and Oatmeal Face Mask

Lemons are a kitchen and household cleaning staple. Lemons are great for your skin too! Just like their shiny yellow peels, lemons can brighten and even lighten your face (or dark spots on your face). The astringent lemon is a natural for those with acne and oily skin. If free radicals and aging are a concern, the Vitamin C in the lemon will take care of you, too. Give this mask a try and see if you don't notice a happy glow when you're done.

Ingredients:

3 Tbs rolled oats
1 Tbsp raw honey
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

Directions: Grind oats in food processor or blender. Pour into a mixing bowl and add honey and lemon juice.  Apply to clean skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse.

I hope you enjoy trying these oatmeal face mask recipes! Your skin will thank you. 🙂

Blessings,

Mindy Benkert
