Do you ever feel like you need to get your act together? Are you a frazzled mama? Let’s be real, cooking whole foods, making your own non-toxic beauty & cleaning products can be very time consuming. Totally worth it, but it’s a commitment for sure.
And sometimes (most times for me) you just don’t have it all together… Things get done, but it’s not always pretty when they do. I’m pretty sure I am one of the messiest cooks that ever lived. Something is always being dropped, spilled, scattered, splattered, etc.
Things don’t always go smoothly. Take tonight for instance:
5:00 – I head to the kitchen to start making dinner, toddler in tow (for this post, she will be known as “Little Monkey”)
5:10 – Find a recipe for whole grain pizza crust on my iPad
5:15 – Look everywhere and can’t find the flour that I just bought the other day. Ask my 12 year old son if he did something with the bag of flour. (Really??? What is a 12 year old going to do with a bag of flour?)
5:20 – Give up on the flour and start cooking sausage for the pizza
5:25 – Finally find the flour in the pantry in the container I placed it in the other day
5:30 – Put ingredients in kitchen aid mixer and turn on. THEN read the rest of the directions and realize the recipe calls for a double rise totaling almost 2 hours. Grrrr, supper’s going to be late tonight.
5:35 – While kneading the dough, kitchen aid mixer falls apart. Can’t get the pin back in. Have to wait for hubby to get home. Put the dough aside to rise.
5:40 – Little Monkey wants to color. Get the crayons and coloring books out.
5:45 – Realize I made the spicy sausage instead of mild. 🙁
5:50 – Pick up the crayons that are now spread all over the floor.
5:55 – Start doing some dishes
6:00 – Little monkey brings her chair over and wants to help with the dishes. Turn the water on. That will keep her busy for a while.
6:05 – Take dough out after only a ½ hour rise, try to remember what to do next.
6:10 – Go to check the recipe and realize my iPad has disappeared. Look all over until I find the missing iPad
6:15 – Recipe isn’t open in my browser anymore, instead a page about drawing airplanes. (Well that tells me who took the iPad, my 12 year old loves airplanes.) Press the back button many times only to learn about drawing lots of things….No recipe
6:20 – Search for recipe on google again and knead my dough, set it aside to rise again
6:25 – Tell Little Monkey not to drink out of the dog’s water bowl.
6:30 – Chase Little Monkey downstairs and bring her back up.
6:35 – Change her soaking wet shirt, a result of “helping” with the dishes…
6:40 – Roll out dough after only letting it rise for 20 minutes. Make pizzas.
6:45 – Sigh of relief. Hubby’s home.
7:00 – Call kids for dinner. They say pizza sauce tastes “funny” 🙁
7:30 – Finish dinner. Let the kids and hubby clean up while I write this blog post.
8:45 – Little Monkey grabs my mouse and throws it across the room. Time to put the Little Monkey to bed.
9:00 – Nurse Little Monkey to sleep and sneak stealthily out of her room. (No she doesn’t put herself to sleep or sleep through the night yet… maybe someday)
As you can see, I rarely have it all together and that’s ok. If you’re anything like me, just remember, as long as we are making positive changes and moving in the right direction, our families will benefit in the long run.
Do you feel like a frazzled mama?
Or do you have it all together?
I would love to hear your stories, I’m sure you have some good ones.
Until next time, this frazzled mama’s calling it a night.
