Get rid of blemishes ASAP with these 2 simple acne spot treatments. You probably have the ingredients in your cupboard right now!
Acne blemishes are a pain. Plain and simple. I have struggled with acne my whole adult life.
That was actually my inspiration for starting this blog, finding natural ways to treat and heal acne.
Of course, my blog has morphed into so much more than acne treatment, but that's how it all began.
Some of my favorite natural treatments are:
- Lemon Honey Face Mask
- Ultimate Guide to DIY Face Masks for Acne
- 3 Fresh Homemade Face Masks for Acne Prone Skin
- 3 Effective Home Remedies to Get Rid of Blackheads Fast
- Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne Treatment: Cheap and Effective
What I have learned along the way is that acne is a symptom of something bigger. Something going on inside.
Last year I documented my “Clear Skin Journey” and the steps I took to test out this theory. After suffering for acne for almost 20 years, could it be as simple as changing my diet?
So for six weeks I:
- Cut out all sugar and processed foods
- Cut out all dairy and gluten
- Drank lots of water
- Oil cleansed with jojoba oil and manuka honey
- Took a whole food multi-vitamin, zinc and vitamin d supplement
And at the end of these 6 weeks, my skin had cleared and even my cyclical acne didn't rare it's ugly head.
But, for transparencies sake, I have to be honest. I haven't stuck to this strict diet since then, and my breakouts have returned, blah.
I am still working on cleaning my diet and pinpointing what exactly is causing my breakouts. I know it's hormone related, happens with my cycle and is obviously affected by some of the foods I eat.
So on the occasion that a blemish has rared it's ugly head, I love these simple yet powerful acne spot treatments.
2 Power Packed Acne Spot Treatments
1. Honey and Clay Acne Spot Treatment
Bentonite and French Green Clay are very effective spot treatments. Both are great at drawing out impurities and promoting healing. But to add even more power to this spot treatment, add a little honey. Honey is antibacterial, antifungal, and contains antioxidants making it the perfect partner for your clay spot treatment. You will want to choose a local raw honey or for even more effectiveness, Manuka Honey.
To apply, simply mix a bit of honey with the clay until you have a sticky paste. Apply to the blemish. Now I prefer to do this at night and leave it on all night, but if you're strapped for time wash off after 15-20 minutes.
2. Honey and Cinnamon Acne Spot Treatment
If you're up for a more spicy spot treatment, Honey and Cinnamon are a great combination. As I mentioned above, honey is great for spot treatments, but cinnamon has some endearing qualities of it's own, including:
- Antioxidant effects
Cinnamon can be irritating to the skin so the honey in this spot treatment provides soothing qualities.
To apply, simply mix a bit of honey with the cinnamon (about 1 part cinnamon to 3 parts honey) and apply to the blemish. Leave on for 15-20 minutes then wash off. You don't want to leave this treatment on too long because it can irritate the skin.
