This preservative has little odor and little color, making it easy to mix into fragrance-free products or products with a mild or natural color.
Geogard ECT also has a wide pH range that it is compatible with, making it easier to add to products than preservatives that are more pH-sensitive!

How to Use Geogard ECT Preservative in Formulations
It is recommended to use Geogard ECT as 0.6-1.0% of your formulation. It is fairly easy to add and can be added directly to many systems.
If you have an emulsifying system, it can easily be added after emulsion at a temperature below 45°C.

You will want to check your products’ PH level to ensure it is within the compatible range of 3-8 before adding your Geogard ECT.
Once the preservative has been added at the recommended percentage, recheck the PH level.
For most skincare products, you want a PH of 5-5.5%. This can be adjusted using a PH modifier like Sodium bicarbonate or Citric acid.
Is Geogarg ECT Water Soluble?
Although this preservative does claim to be water soluble, it contains benzyl alcohol, which is not completely water soluble.
I would not recommend using Geogard ECT in completely water based products like toners, spritzers or aftershave unless you will be adding a solubilizer.
Geogard ECT Warnings
Geogard ECT is generally regarded as a safe preservative to use in your DIY skin care products. Always wear gloves when handling and preparing Geogard ECT for use, be sure to clean up any spilled product.
It is important to carefully measure all preservatives to ensure that you do not use too little or too much.
Some people with sensitive skin may react to this preservative. It is always recommended to do a patch test with any new ingredients.
Note: Should not be used in products for children under 3 except for shampoo because of it contains salicylic acid.
If you have any questions about safety or measurements for your preservatives, you should contact the manufacturer.
