Subtly tinted with natural hibiscus powder, this DIY Tinted Lip Balm is soothing and, most importantly, chemical-free.
I don't know when it started.
My addiction to lip balm.
For as long as I remember, I've always had to have a tube or two on me.
At home, I have one in the kitchen utensil drawer, one in the junk drawer, 3-4 in the office desk drawer and half a dozen in the bathroom.
My purse? Yes, I probably have a combined total of 12 from all my purses and handbags.
Addiction, I tell you! It's no wonder I set out to start making my own because, at this rate, I would need a second job just to support my addiction.
Tint your face with Lip Balm
Tinted lip balm is the new lipstick. Well, not really, but it sure is a great way to add some color to your face and give a fresh look. I remember a few years ago, I snagged a few (or 10) Burt's Bee's tinted balms and fell in love with them.
They are perfect for when lipstick seems too formal or too heavy. I'm not a big make-up person per se, but I also don't care to frighten my neighbors with my pale au naturel look.
I also love a nice lip gloss, which is perfect for when you want to take your look up a notch!
Beautiful hue of Hibiscus
And I'm glad I did because it's incredibly easy to make DIY tinted lip balm with a few key ingredients.
If you prefer more of a shimmery lip gloss, you can learn how to make lip gloss here. Our recipe and tutorial is completely customizable. We've included a lip gloss base that you can customize with any colors and tints you choose!
Have you tried my Hibiscus Fruit Punch? So tangy, delicious, and sweet and just perfect for any occasion, any season, any day. You can't go wrong with hibiscus. It's so versatile and the gorgeous red hue makes it an amazing choice to tint the lip balm. Not the Red 40 that would normally be seen in conventional products, this is truly food grade. Very safe for your curious toddler sporting your high heels and pearls.

very easy recipe - but my final product came out dry, what did I do that was wrong? I did not mind the tube, I actually ended up with 3 tubes and 2 small glass containers. When I apply it, i have to press hard on my lips... help! I love lip balms and I want to get good at it. thank you... I love all your recipes. Ettina

Hi Ettina, if your balm was too dry, you could melt it back down and add in more carrier oil. Or if starting again, cut down on the amount of beeswax, maybe try using half the amount. Hope that helps!

Heyyy!!! I have been perfecting my all-natural lip balm recipe (my first was way too soft and the next too hard) and I'm getting really close. My lips are kind of oddly colored, so I've decided to add some natural tint to my recipe. I've been doing research and see that a lot of recipes call for "mica powder" which sounds highly suspicious. Hibiscus powder, however, seems like the perfect hue and ingredient to use. I've also read various experiences that mention that the powder is a bit difficult to dissolve. How can I make sure that it does??? Thanks!!!!!

Hi Kat, hibiscus powder is water soluble but since there isn't water in lip balm it's a little trickier to dissolve. You may want to infuse the hibiscus powder into your carrier oil using a disposable teabag. I saw this trick on the Humblebee & Me blog. Here is a link to her recipe and tutorial. I think it will be very helpful for you! Have a great day!

I made a very similar lip balm last year and gave it out for holiday gifts. Except I made the mistake of using the tubes - it was an experiment - very messy and I won't be using the tubes again. I like the screw top you used and will be making more this year. Once you have the supplies, it really is easy to make up a batch, and every woman should have her own stash! Sharing and pinning.

I did that last year as well. And yes, the tubes are very messy. :) Everyone loved it though!
