It’s no secret that babies have very delicate skin. It’s important to keep baby’s skin moisturized and protected, but we don’t want to slather baby down in toxic laden ingredients found in many commercially produced baby lotions.
Using just a few, simple and natural ingredients, we can create a natural baby cream that will soothe baby’s delicate skin, leave baby smelling sweet and fresh, and protect baby’s skin.

Why Make Your Own Homemade Body Butter?
First, let’s talk about commercially produced baby products. Most baby lotions widely available on the market are chock full of ingredients that aren’t the safest for baby.
Ingredients such as synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates, and sulfates are common ingredients in commercially produced creams and each is known to have potentially damaging effects such as skin irritation and disruption of important bodily systems.
Long-term use of the ingredients we just talked about can lead to a whole host of health issues. Synthetic fragrances can cause major skin irritations while also potentially causing respiratory problems such as asthma and allergies. (source)
Many of the ingredients can disrupt the body’s endocrine system, which is responsible for hormone production and regulation.
Hormones are involved with most functions in the body so having hormonal imbalances can lead to menstrual problems, thyroid problems, and even blood sugar irregularities.
What is Baby Body Butter?
Body butter tends to be a little thicker than a baby lotion, but also more nourishing to the skin.
The thicker consistency lends itself well to adding extra moisturizing and protectant qualities to the product. You’ll find that you generally need to use less body butter than you do a thinner lotion.
The recipe below is a great, nourishing natural baby cream that is safe for the entire family to use. It’s very easy to make, uses simple ingredients, and has a wonderful aroma to it. This natural baby cream is wonderful to apply after a bath, before bed, or anytime baby’s skin needs a little extra care – this is also a wonderful cream to use throughout the dry, winter months.

If you aren't happy with the consistency, try reducing the amount of butters and increasing the almond oil.
